I started “21 Days to becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman,” and the very first prompt caught my eye… “ Read Matthew 5:13-16 Here Jesus tells us to be salt and light. He tells us to stand out among men, not to blend in. Why do you think that is?
Here is the full verse:
Salt and Light
13. “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Ok so obviously I can’t help but think of the Proverbs 31 woman… She’s not loud about who she is, but her presence changes the room. Just like salt, she adds flavor. Just like light, she makes things clearer.
Salt is funny lit, a pinch changes everything. Too much (goes a long way), and it’s overwhelming. Too little, and it feels like something’s missing. The Proverbs 31 woman has that balance. She preserves wisdom, keeps her family grounded, and seasons her words with kindness. And light doesn’t argue with darkness, it just shows up.. The Proverbs 31 woman shines like that. At verse 25 says she’s “clothed with strength and dignity” and can “laugh at the days to come.” That’s a different kind of glow, one that’s rooted in trust, not fear. She doesn’t hide who she is or dim down to make others comfortable. She just lets her life speak.
For me, living this out looks simple buuut not always easy:
- Checking my words and asking if they add encouragement or take away from somebody’s spirit.
- Putting effort into the things God’s placed in my hands, even when nobody claps for it.
- Trusting that the way I live, love, and lead can point people back to Him more than any spotlight ever could.
The Proverbs 31 woman isn’t perfect, she’s is purposeful. She doesn’t shine because she never struggles. She shines because she stays connected… And that’s what I want to be. Salt that adds value. Light that helps somebody else see their way. Not for me, but so that when people look at my life, they can’t help but see God’s fingerprints all over it.
